Why do we celebrate festivals?

Do we really need to??

Life is a mirror of our thoughts, actions, words and deeds. This is described in bhagavadgita as karmayoga. This is later on translated to various forms and various languages as different types of yoga or principles of life. But to understand fully what exactly karma yoga teaches?
It says all our deeds, actions, words, thoughts are seed for our future experiences. Our present is started in the past.
If someone loves us now it is because we loved someone in the past. If someone is serving us, it is because we served someone in the past.
Experience of anger, grief, hatred, love, deceive, peace every emotion of life started somewhere from our past.
It's not abnormal for a person receiving love from unknown because he/she loved and served someone.
Similarly if we love nature, nature loves us. If we destroy nature, nature destroys us.
All our Indian festivals are based on this very important aspect of life. If we look deeper about Indian festivals, there is a hidden message. Each Indian festival emphasizes the need of getting together, serve the guest with at most respect, pray for welfare of people, donate food, money, or something that one can do, pray to auspicious trees, pray to rivers as mother, celebrate the whole day with friends and relatives with immense happiness and finally be with God on the whole day. This is common for every festival. Because all the deeds, thoughts, actions on this auspicious day brings us more happiness, friends and relatives who standby in our difficult times.
One may question about our festivals or gods or religion but in reality each and every religion or God teaches only one thing. Just pray for someone's welfare, try to serve others, love all, share your happiness. Every action we do on festival day has inner meaning that is only to unite us and make the world as better living place. We can question the gods concept or religions but the pure intention is to make this world as best place to live.
